The Grips of Alcohol
Alcohol Dependency
Alcohol dependency has become a rapidly growing cancer on our society. It has not only ruined more than enough lives in this world, but it has also ended more than its share. No one truly knows everything about alcoholism, but what is known is that there are several characteristics of alcohol dependency.
One major characteristic of alcohol dependency is a family history of alcoholism. Many in the medical field believe there is a definite correlation between family history and alcohol dependency. It is said that alcohol addiction is a genetic problem and even has the potential to skip generations.
Withdrawal symptoms are a major characteristic of alcohol dependency. The true beginning of alcohol withdrawal starts with a simple hangover. One could begin to feel better in a few hours but soon tremors or “the shakes†take over. These symptoms could sometimes be followed by extreme fits of delirium and hallucinations. Convulsions, comas, or even death are all possible results of withdrawal, as well.
If a person experiences a history of blackouts or memory loss while drinking, they could be exhibiting signs of alcohol dependency. Not that blackouts happen frequently when a person drinks, but they could definitely be tell-tale signs of alcohol dependency.
